When: Sunday June 5, 2-5pm
Where: Sanchez Art Center, 1220 Linda Mar Blvd, Pacifica, CA
Kids and Art will mark the end of the 2015-16 season with Colors of Healing, a collaborative art project at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica located at 220 Linda Mar Blvd # B, featuring works created by local studio artists throughout the Bay Area and children from families touched by cancer. Evening and daytime receptions will celebrate the exhibition and the end of the season.
The work on exhibit was created at a workshop earlier this month at which professional studio artists, including members of the Sanchez Art Center staff, created artwork side by side with Kids & Art children to reflect the show’s themes. The pieces will also be displayed side by side to highlight how each may have influenced the other and to show the synergistic result of the collaborative work.
Our founder, Purvi Shah, commented: “The exhibit was designed to give these children an immersive experience, an opportunity to feel what it is like to show their art in a public gallery space. Forging a connection between separate worlds and separate works, the art speaks to the bonds that are at the heart of the Kids & Art experience.”
Artists who participated in the project include: Jennifer Alpaugh, Jan Hanway, Lisa Warns, Jil Coolidge, Celina Paul, Rinat Goren, Kimberlie Garg, Helen Lew, Linette Morales and Jason DePerro.
Joint Evening Reception. Friday, June 3, 7:00-9:00 p.m. The Colors of Healing show is being held concurrently with two other exhibits at the Art Center through June 26. The public is invited to view the art beginning Friday, June 3, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at an evening reception highlighting all three exhibits. The art is also available for purchase. The singing group Tonal Recall will provide live music. In addition to Colors of Healing, the Art Center’s Main Gallery features an exhibit titled Hell 2 Pay and Other Works by John Yoyogi Fortes, curated by Philip E. Linhares. Fortes and Linhares will also give a free artist/curator talk on closing Sunday, June 26, at 4:00 p.m.
Kids & Art Daytime Reception Sunday June 5, 2:00-5:00 p.m. This event will focus on celebrating the Kids & Art exhibit as well as mark the culmination of the 2015-16 art workshop season. Visitors can also participate in an open community art making project titled Coastal Colors, a free participatory arts activity. The Center will provide panels and paint and will display visitors’ creations in its East Gallery foyer.
The season finale provides us a moment to be thankful for all the good support that has come our way this season and the partnerships we have built. This season we’ve gotten a chance to experience first hand a lot of positives that come from partnership. There is a lot that evolves from building on this kind of synergy with groups like Sanchez Art Center, among others.
We will have a few art making and other fun activities for kids (and anyone who wants to participate in child's play!) Also, the crew from Kids & Art will be there to greet the public, welcome supporters, thank its volunteers, and celebrate the families and young artists who worked on this show and during the entire season.
