Amaey S

7yrs

Diagnosed with ALL November 2005

On Nov 22 2005 I had to take (my then) 3.3yr to the ER, because he was pale and very weak and had a distended belly, where I was joined by my husband.

As soon as the doctors did a blood test they came and told us that Amaey had Leukemia. Before we could take in all the information, they gave us face masks to

wear and wheeled him off to a quarantined room. We were then sent to a special room and after 20 some hours of waiting for tests we were informed about his entire treatment plan. Amaey has ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) and will be on a 3.5yrs treatment. So far, he has undergone several hospital stays and visits, oral and intravenous chemo, spinal taps, steroids, blood and platelet transfusions.

To give you an example of the suffering this little child and many like him undergo- When Amaey gets his chemo and is on steroids he is a completely different person. He is highly flammable, emotional, indecisive, easily angered and confused, always hungry at the same time averse to certain foods, intolerant of noise.

The chemo weakens his ability to walk and he gets headaches. All of these symptoms in a child that is generally an entertainer, wakes up with the widest smile, showers you with hugs and kisses, loves playing, has the music up on high and dances at the drop of a hat.

Amaey completed his treatment on January 26 2009. Half his life has been busy with fighting cancer.

On March 23, 2009, Amaey has had a relapse. He had to undergo 2 more years of  intense treatment.

On April 30, 2011, Amaey was cured of his ALL but relapsed with a chemo induced cancer called AML, he underwent a bone marrow transplant in July 2011 but passed away on September 25, 2011.
